If you are a new dog owner, it might not be apparent to you why you
need to buy a dog leash for dog training. After all, should these
animals not be allowed to roam freely? There is some truth to that and
there are places where they can roam free. However, there are also
instances when you need to restrain your pet as will be described below.
Dog house training
A
puppy still in dog training may prove to be a great source of
disturbance when you are walking or training it outdoors. It may run
away from you and pose a danger to other people. Worse, a motor vehicle
may run over it. As it's loving owner, you obviously want to minimise
the chances of this happening. Thus, it is highly recommended you treat
your four-legged pet like you would a child. Keep them close, preferably
within an arm's reach.
An untrained puppy may also pose great
harm to strangers who want to pet it. Often times, we see strangers
trying to play with a cute dog and then running away when the dog barks
at them. The first instinct of that unleashed dog is to run after them
and scare them away. In the worst cases, the canine would even bite the
offending stranger. This is an unfortunate incident that can be
prevented if your dog is securely leashed in your hand, when practicing

Similarly, young pooches that are still
undergoing dog training may not yet recognize the sound of trucks and
large vehicles and may dash out of your house into the street,
completely unaware. Drivers may not always see them and run them over.
Or, the driver may try to avoid the charging dog and pose a danger to
other passers-by. You may conduct some dog house training to modify your
dog's behaviour when hearing car sounds but it is still better to have
them safely and comfortably leashed.
This does not mean that you
cannot allow your dog to run freely. If you have a fenced yard, you can
afford to allow your dogs run wild inside it. You can also use this as a
venue for conducting dog house training. Just make sure there is no
hole in your fence where the dog can pass through and run after noisy
neighbourhood kids, other animals, and fellow members of the canine
species. Regularly check whether your beloved pet has dug any holes in
the ground as these four-legged mammals can be quite adept at digging
holes just like moles.
In addition, there are specially designed
parks for dogs where you can allow them to play all they want and even
do some dog training. These are called dog parks and perfect places to
meet with other canine lovers. When out though, keep in mind to use a
leash. This is an easy and painless solution to keeping your furry best
friend and other people safe. Make sure to buy a leash that is at least
six feet long so that there will be enough room for your dog to
manoeuvre as they can be quite playful and rowdy with other canines
around.
